Acts 2:46-47 NLT
“They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lordís Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity ó all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.”
Today we took the first step in creating community in Malawi and rolling out Life Groups to 14 of the villages that funnel into the Kambona and Msema churches. It was a full morning of training by Bill, with a break for lunch, and then one hour more. First they were trained in being a Life Group leader, and then we went through the first lesson together.
It was a great blessing to see the eagerness expressed by each of the people being trained. They take their role as a Life Group Leader very seriously,† and cannot wait to begin discipling current believers, and making disciples of those in their villages who do not know Jesus.
The questions that they asked about the Scriptural text, showed just how deep they desire to go. They believe that God is ready to do a mighty work in their villages, and that there will be a great harvest for Christ through these Life Groups.
Well Worth the Sacrifice
It was a sacrifice for these 14 to attend this training. Normally, they would spend their day trying to find a small job to do somewhere, so they could earn enough money to buy food for the day for their family. They were willing to give that up today, in order that the kingdom will increase. Because of this, a goat was purchased and cooked over an open fire. Their lunch consisted of this goat, and their usual staple food made from maize…nsima. They did not walk away hungry. We praise God for His provision!
Pastor Duncan said “I was very impressed with the Life Groups that I saw at Hope church when I was there. I see how important they are and how seriously Hope takes discipling the people so I very happy to begin Life Groups here in Malawi.”
Once this training was complete, we headed to the orphanage to meet with the orphans. 20 of the 22 orphans were there, and we were greeted with several songs sung by them.
Song and Study
After that, Jim taught on the Book of Daniel while Damson translated. It was a great teaching, and the kids truly learned the lesson, as was evident when Damson quizzed each student afterwards. Damson has been known to do this quizzing after he preaches also. Maybe something Hope should try?? ?
Once the lesson was over, the kids completed a craft and it was time to say our good-byes. These kids have such an amazing insight into the Scripture that they learn. The Holy Spirit is truly working in the hearts if these orphans, to teach them and grow them in their faith.
We praise God for the spiritual growth that we have seen, both in the adults and in the orphans. We give all praise, honor and glory to Him, as He continues His mighty work here in Malawi!
