It’s hard to believe… this Fall Hope will be entering into our fifth year of our Longridge Community Partnership at Longridge School. What began with a simple “How can we help?,” has grown to 17 after school clubs in the 2018/2019 school year with:
- Over half of the student population being involved in a club
- Several families being blessed with Christmas gifts each year
- Teacher Appreciation breakfasts offered several times a year
- An end of year Teacher Appreciation Dinner here at Hope for teachers and administrators of Longridge School
- Several families in need being helped and prayed with.
God is good, and God has been at work!
God has grown relationships not only between Hope volunteers and students, but also with the Longridge staff. For instance, the first couple years the Christmas gifts that were purchased for Longridge families were wrapped by Hope members. For the last two years we have had a gift wrapping night at Hope that included Hope members and Longridge staff. Some Longridge staff have attended worship at Hope, and one staff member is interested in being involved in our global Malawi Mission Partnership. Some Longridge families have also attended worship at Hope and our Vacation Bible School. Connections have also been built beyond the walls of Hope or Longridge with times where a student from a club recognizes their club leader from Hope at a store and strikes up conversation. We love that!
Because of our Longridge Community Partnership, we have seen first-hand the love that the teachers and staff have for their students. Being a teacher is a high calling and we love to encourage and support the teachers and staff at Longridge. God has provided so many opportunities for us to show students, teachers and staff how much He loves them! He has opened the door has given us the opportunity to share His love, care and encouragement with them.
An exciting addition to the clubs this past year has been Tony Dungy’s All-Pro Dads, a successful program designed for dads and their kids to spend time together and to strengthen their relationship. Pastor Kirk leads this program once a month before school, with volunteers providing breakfast. All-Pro Dads has seen attendance of over 150 kids and dads!!
Just helping to support our schools and strengthen families in our community would be enough for us, but each year the Greece Central School District awards the Community Partnership Award to a company or organization that partners with their schools. This year Hope was blessed and honored to be the recipient of this award. We give all praise, honor and glory to Jesus for working in and through our volunteers, the relationships, and the partnership, to show His love, care, and compassion first hand to the staff, students, and families at Longridge School.
