Words of Hope from Elder Carl Coloney

In Luke 13:6-9, Jesus told a parable of a fig tree and a gardener. The tree hadn’t produced fruit in 3 years and the owner wanted it cut down. The gardener replied, “ Sir, leave it alone for one more year and I will dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit fine. If not, then you can cut it down”.

Think about when Jesus began the work of gardening in your life. Was it at your baptism, your confirmation, at a time of crisis? Who or what did He use to gain your attention – a pastor, a friend, a movie, a tv or radio message, illness or personal loss? What drew you to Him so He could begin His ministry of investing time, effort, love and care into you?

In the beginning “God created”. When was your spiritual beginning? How is He using the COVID virus to fertilize and dig around your roots for growth, strength and resilience? Philippians 1:6 says that “He who began a good work in you will not rest until it is finished”. May this time in your life be a time of continued growth and loving care from our master Gardener Jesus as we trust and rest in Him.
