Words of Hope from Elder Jim Fordham

I would like to share a word of hope and encouragement that my granddaughter Gaby has shared on Instagram. I don’t think I could express myself any better at this very difficult time. I pray her words can give you comfort and purpose in these very uncertain times.

But one thing we can be certain of is that our God Lives, and is with us as stated in Psalm 46. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” gaby_gagarinas

Just a lil’ brain dump… As the past few weeks have gone by, it has at times felt easy to focus on the losses and cancellations that this quarantine time has brought. However, one thing I’ve realized that we do have an ABUNDANCE of, even more than before, is TIME! As so many profs and friends have encouraged me, we’re called to be good stewards of what the Lord has given us, and right now if that is an abundance of time, we should seek to steward it well- looking for ways to grow, to serve others, and to build good habits. But also in pursuit of growth, I’ve realized that it’s soo important to remember our motive behind it. If we’ve trusted in Christ as or Savior, the motive should not be to merely improve ourselves to ‘be better.’ This will just lead to discouragement because we are limited and imperfect people.

Instead, if our motivation to grow is to glorify God out of the fullness we already have through Christ, it can be a joy-filled process that is completely by His grace and for His glory! Because this whole life is about Him anyway, so we can praise the Lord and thank him for any fruit he produces through us while resting in his grace for every time we fail! So while we have this abundance of time, yes- pursue growth!!!- but also remember the WHY :)) “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that the surpassing power belongs to God & not to us.” 1 Corinthians 4:7

May you grow in your faith, knowing Jesus is with you.
