Pursuit.
I just love that word. When I think about the word “pursuit” I think of someone seeking me out with an intense movement toward me because I matter to them. God is in pursuit of you and in pursuit of me…. ALL. THE. TIME. And to try to put this in human words is really not possible but I will try to paint the picture here.
We may not understand it very well but God’s experience of time is more overarching and vast since He is all knowing and all being, while ours is simply something more linear, day to day. To try to grasp this is impossible but God is in pursuit of us every single nanosecond of every single hour and even more. I guess that’s why Buzz Lightyear from the movie Toy Story says it best, “to infinity and beyond…” But God says, I LOVE YOU…to infinity and beyond….that’s even better!
The other thing about God’s pursuit of us is that that very same heart dwells inside of each of us. He made us in His image so He gave us the heart of the pursuit to reach others. Why? Because we matter to Him…all people do. I often ask the Lord to move in me to see past the faults and difficulties of people and to only pursue them to show them His grace. That may be something undeserved but I, too, stand in God’s grace with my own faults and difficulties.
In the world we live in, there is not enough grace and not enough love. We can change that. We can show people that they matter. We can show people that they are loved. We can lead them to know that saving grace. I can’t think of anything in this life that is more important than that. Our Hope 2020 Vision is an excellent start.
I hope we all will be in pursuit of God as well. He desires that. The Bible says draw near to God and He will draw near to you. I also hope that we will open ourselves up to be in pursuit of people who don’t know Him yet. When I think about this whole idea and the things happening at Hope Church it blows my mind because the possibilities are endless. Pretty much like God…..
