Walk by Faith is a simple title for our Hope campaign that has a lot packed in it. First, it implies motion – we’re not sitting or standing still. We’re moving, exerting effort. And, since we don’t normally walk backwards, it seems to imply we’re moving forward.
It also implies how it happens. It’s not by chance and it’s not necessarily knowing the answer or even the destination. It’s by faith, something unseen. Yet, it is a gift from God that connects us to Him. It is the means by which He has chosen to save us. In the Bible, we continuously see what great things were done “by faith.”
Sue and I believe God is still calling His followers to do great things — mountain moving things that will impact people’s lives, that will change the trajectory of their eternity, things that will impact His Kingdom for His glory.
This will be the fourth campaign we’ve been called to be part of to move God’s Kingdom forward. The first was at our home congregation, the last two were here at Hope. Repeatedly, God has shown us that He is everything we need and that we can’t out give Him. But it’s not just the financial step. It’s truly amazing how each time it continues to build our individual trust and faith in Him. Maybe like me, you have a to-do list, a list of accomplishments you want to see done. But faith isn’t like that. Our faith is never really “done” until we meet Jesus face-to-face. Now He’s a friend who continues to want the best for us, and to bring out the best in us. He believes in us more than we believe in ourselves. He’s a friend who will never give up on us even when we want to give up on ourselves— a friend who knows, with Him, we can do more than we ever dreamed or imagined.
The crazy thing is, as if He hasn’t already done enough, it’s not just what Jesus wants to do in us, but through us! Sue and I have seen it again and again. As much as He grows us in this process, He really wants to use us to reach those who don’t yet know the joy of this journey. When that happens, the thrill is incomparable to anything else you’ll do in this life. True story!
So why are we pumped about Walking by Faith? Because there is no better journey this side of heaven!
